OS X Mountain Lion

21 February 2012

While I was away last week, Apple released a developer preview of OS X 10.8, code-named Mountain Lion.

Inspired by iPad. Made for the Mac.

As their title says, the new release will bring even more iOS features across to the Mac. Messages, Reminders, Notes will be available on the desktop, and Notification Center will provide a system-wide notification system for Mac apps.

It’s interesting that Apple seems to have dropped the ‘Mac’ from ‘Mac OS X’ in all their marketing materials recently. Their two OSes are now simply OS X and iOS. Despite the symmetry in the naming, they still pronounce the desktop OS as “OS ten” in their video.
